Article from our St. Louis newspaper. Check out Brian Diehl's quote, it's pretty funny. Gay marriage ban gets voter OK By Matt Franck Of the Post-Dispatch 08/03/2004 Missouri voters gave resounding approval to an amendment to the state constitution banning gay marriage, putting the nation on notice that similar proposed bans in other states could be difficult to defeat. The Missouri Constitution will now state that ``to be valid and recognized in this state a marriage shall exi...

1:23 am I woke up suddenly from a dream, and I am no longer tired. I was in the Catholic Student Center office, along with a group of many other people meandering about. The CSC was a little different though. It was as if it was in a dorm or something. It seemed like it was in one of the “new dorms” Two men, a large one and a scrawny one, walked into the office and yelled something. It was something incomprehensible. Or at least I don’t remember what it is now, but it was sort of lik...

I mentioned awhile back that I was moderating a group called KerrySpace, which discussed ideas for John Kerry's Space Policy. Over the past two days, for some reason membership has skyrocketed (no pun intended) to over 150 members. Included in our ranks are several respresentatives of major national space advocacy groups, as well as a Kerry for President staffer who is working on his space policy officially. To get involved, or just listen in, visit our Yahoo Group Website . Also, I will ...

I have been trying to find information about Kerry's policy on Space Exploration. The following article shed's a bit of light. After reading it, please tell me whether you think it means Kerry is pro-space or anti-space, or whether that is even a question that can be answered. Copied from http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewnews.html?id=965 Of course, the only comments from a Democratic presidential candidate in 2004 that have come to have any real relevance to the future progress o...

I previously stated that Brasil and Argentina are widely considered the two best teams in South America, but one should not forget about Uruguay. They are equal with Argentina in terms of championships, with two World Cups and 14 Copa America titles. Their last World Cup was in 1950 though, and most of their Copa America championships were in the early 1900's, when they truly were powerhouses. Nowadays, I would place them in a close-but-clear third place to Brasil and Argentina. Interestin...

On Sunday Argentina will face Brasil in the final of the Copa America, the oldest international soccer tournament. Argentina and Brasil are widely thought to be the best two teams in South America, and two of the best in the world. Brasil has five World Cup Championships (the most of any country) and Argentina has two. (The only other teams that have more are Germany and Italy.) In the Copa America, however, Argentina has 14 championships, while Brasil has only 6. (Note on Uruguay as th...

Well, no one really read my last Copa America article , but I'll keep writing because, well, this is EXCITING NEWS! The teams knocked-out in the group stage were no big surprise: Ecuador, Venezuela, Boliva, and Chile. The only borderline surprise was Chile, when Costa Rica knocked them out with a goal in the final minute of their matchup. Had Costa Rica not scored that goal in the nick of time, it would have been a three-way tie in points between Chile, Costa Rica, and Bolivia. Bolivia an...

Today Bolivia is holding a controversial referendum on what to do with its recently discovered reserve of natural gas. The issue last year caused radicals to oust their President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada. Vice-President Carlos Mesa took over, and his strategy is to put the issue to the people in a vote, albeit a cunningly crafted one. The issue is essentially a stand-off between indigenous Bolivians (Aymaran and Quechua-speaking people) who make up a majority of 8.5 million Bolivians, and th...

I just heard that a friend of mine from high school died tragically. We were good friends freshman year. I even went with his family on their family vacation to Florida over spring break. We started to drift apart somewhat around sophomore year. We remained friendly throughout high school, but didn't hang out too that often. I still always enjoyed his company and considered him a friend. We just became different people. I drank my first bottle of wine with him on New Year's 1996. He had t...
