This article is primarily for newcomers to JoeUser , who may have stumpled into this blogger world via my blogsite, Guinness Daily . I became interested in online publishing back in Fall of 2003. I tried out a number of different sites, such as blogspot , and I eventually settled on the new, smaller, but in my opinion, more powerful JoeUser.com. Features JoeUser has a number of features and advantages that I found interesting and to my enjoyment. The main thing is your articles...

I am a white male with light brown hair (considered blond by some standards), green eyes, and a fair complexion. My ancestral roots are mostly Irish and Italian. I am a practicing Roman Catholic. I was born, raised, and currently live in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. I'm 23 years old, and recently graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in physics. I'm currently trying to figure out what to do with my life, but I'm paying the bills by doing free-lance web design and ...

I don't know about you all, but asides from JU, I also participate regularly in several online forums focused on specific topics of discussion. Lately, after writing a JoeUser article, I've been going to forums that focus on a topic related to the topic of the article and just making a post saying, "Hey, check out this article I wrote on [subject of forum in which you are posting]. Please give me your feedback!" Then I provide a link directly to my article. What has occured is that ...

Freddy or Eddie as Teenage Soccer Sensation Granted there is a 2.5 year age difference between the two (if you accept the validity of Adu's Ghanan-verified birthdate), but I don't understand why Freddy Adu gets dubbed teenage superstar and receives the lionshare of attention of the entire MLS, while Eddie Gaven, who is performing superbly for the NJ MetroStars (who are leading DC United by 3 points at the top of the Eastern Conference) and today earned his first cap on the USMNT is l...

JoeUser.com is becoming a diverse place with diverse writers and diverse readers. For instance, there are quite a few who write about politics, but others that don't really care about politics but love writing about sports. Now, the "Channels" help to point people in the right direction, but I think JU could be set up a little better, and here is my idea: The articles that are selected each day to be on the front page seem to get a LOT more attention and more replies. I believe that Brad s...

This week, the biggest soccer tournament in the Americas began in Peru. Teams competing include Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uraguay, and Venezuela. Argentina and Brazil are favorites to win, as usual. But Colombia is the defending champion and Mexico and Uraguay are always strong as well. The US was invited to the tournament, but they turned it down, since MLS is in full-season. I think it's a crying shame, as the tournament w...

In an attempt to clean up my previous article, I deleted a number of replies and and am putting them in this article." I guess I'm experimenting with BakerStreets idea of "censorship," but I don't like completely deleting what others have to say, so I'm just moving them instead.Hopefully people can start some new threads based on discussion here... It was an exciting first round. Greece upset an all-star Portugal squad, but then Portugal came back to beat the all-star of all-star squads Spain. England and France passed through as expected, but both teams have weak moments and both nearly got upset by a hard fighting Croatian team. Group C was just painful. No one likes to see a three-way tie decided by goals, and in my opinion Italy got screwed (more on that later). Group D was a bit surprising with Czech Republic coming awa...

I have recently taken a strong liking to international soccer competition. It began actually when I lived in Germany in the summer of 2002, and was immersed in a true World Cup hysteria. But my liking intensified living in Argentina in the summer of 2003. Although Argentina wasn't even on the map after the first stage of the 2002 World Cup due to poor results, it is home to some of the fiercest soccer players in the world. Buenos Aires, the capital, is home to 20 professional socce...

Heard a sad report on BBC the other night about a Pacific atoll nation (Tuvalu) that will soon go completely underwater do to the rising ocean, a result of global warming. There was also a bit about Alaskan communities that are being destroyed by eroding beaches, a result of later season freezing of nearby icebergs. Is anyone not yet convinced of global warming, and is anyone who is convinced not yet concerned?

Anyone who opposed the Iraq war should go online now and read the interim Iraqi constitution. For a summary of it, go to BBC's website , or read the whole thing here . Compare this document, for instance, against this brief description of Saddam Hussein's "constitution": "This is a regime that will gouge out the eyes of children to force confessions from their parents and grandparents. This is a regime that will crush all of the bones in the feet of a 2-year-old girl to force her mot...

Did anyone else see that Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, called Bush an "asshole"? Well, that's what the press is reporting anyways. Actually he called him a "pendejo," which basically means idiot or imbecile (and also can mean coward). ("El muy pendejo se lo creyó." Link ) He also went on to say that "We have enough balls here to defend this land," referring to the recently fleeing Aristide (although some are now saying he was kidnapped and forced to leave). Chavez is generally ...
