candid thoughts on the issues of the day.
For all you soccer fans in the Americas

This week, the biggest soccer tournament in the Americas began in Peru. Teams competing include Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uraguay, and Venezuela. Argentina and Brazil are favorites to win, as usual. But Colombia is the defending champion and Mexico and Uraguay are always strong as well.

The US was invited to the tournament, but they turned it down, since MLS is in full-season. I think it's a crying shame, as the tournament would be good for them, and their participation would help bring Copa America more to the forefront of the US market.

At the time of writing this two game days have already been played. In Group A, hosts Peru tied with Bolivia 2-2, while Colombia beat Venezuela 1 - 0. In Group B, Mexico tied Uraguay 2-2, and Argentina slaughtered Ecuador 6-1.

In the US, the games are televized on Univision and Telefutura. Univision usually comes with basic cable (the spanish channel), while Telefutura comes with DISH network (may come with other dish services, but I'm not sure). I've also found one place on the internet where you can get streaming video, and there are lots of places that have streaming audio. Let me know if anyone finds a good streaming video source, as the one I found wasn't that good. Also, you can get minute-by-minute text feeds at http://www.copaamericaperu.com/

Enjoy the tournament, and let me know what you think of the games!
